About Canalli Guitars

Meet The Master Builder: Mateus Canalli

Born in Jundiaí, São Paulo, Brazil, in 1976, Mateus Canalli's journey into the world of luthiery began at a tender age. Fascinated by the intricacies of musical instruments, he disassembled his first electric bass guitar at just 14, igniting a lifelong passion.

With a diverse background in mechanical machining, technical drawing, and automotive restoration, Canalli's skills found a natural synergy in the craft of guitar building. After relocating to Marau, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 2013, he dedicated himself fully to luthiery in 2014.

Drawing inspiration from renowned luthiers like Vander Pinesso and João Cassias, Canalli has honed his craft through rigorous study and experimentation. His commitment to innovation is evident in his tireless pursuit of new tonewoods and unconventional approaches, including the exploration of reclaimed tonewoods with several years of existence after harvest. These reclaimed woods offer unique tonal characteristics, often exhibiting a deeper, richer sound due to their age and exposure to various environmental factors. Additionally, using reclaimed wood aligns with sustainable practices, reducing the demand for newly harvested trees.

Canalli's instruments are renowned for their exceptional tone, playability, and unique character. By combining traditional techniques with modern sensibilities, he strives to create guitars that not only sound incredible but also inspire players, collectors, and hobbyists to appreciate and enjoy the art of music.
